Tributes paid to young student

TRIBUTES have been paid to an 18-year-old girl who was killed in a road accident at the weekend.

Jordan Minnis, whose mother Linda lives in Dromara, was the driver of a car which crashed after it left the Rathfriland Road near Hilltown on Sunday afternoon.

Jordan had just finished her first week as a student at Queen’s University Belfast when she passed away, leaving behind her parents Dessie and Linda, two brothers, a sister, and her boyfriend of three years Peter.

Jordan, from Kilkeel, was described as ‘bright,’ ‘cheerful’ and a ‘lovely young Christian’ by Rev Ken McGrath minister of Christ Church.

“I know her thoughtful friendship meant a lot to many of the young people,” he said.

“They and we are devastated to lose her. Our prayers are very much with Jordan family and her boyfriend Peter.”

A special assembly was held at Jordan’s former school Kilkeel High on Monday where condolences were extended to her family

“While at Kilkeel High School Jordan was an exemplary student who along with the conscientious approach to her school work also found time to be involved actively in many of the school’s extra curricular activities,” a statement form the school read.

Jordan was also closely involved with the JIMs project in Kilkeel and played an active role in Christian youth work.

Ivan Henderson project manager of the JIMS project said her death had left many of the young people devastated. They had intended on holding monthly service on Sunday which was cancelled as a sign of respect.

“Jordan was a very special person who had done so much for the young people in the community.”

Her funeral service was held on Wednesday at 2pm in Christ Church Kilkeel with burial at Mount Presbyterian Graveyard.
