Tributes to Archdeacon

TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Church of Ireland archdeacon of the diocese of Derry and Raphoe, the Venerable Charles Willoughby, who died last week.

The leading clergyman died on Thursday and was laid to rest on Monday morning following a funeral service in Christ Church, Limavady.

He was ordained in 1944 and spent all of his ministry in the Derry and Raphoe diocese, serving as archdeacon from 1978 to 1985.

A spokesperson for the diocese said: "Our sympathy goes to Archdeacon Willoughby's wife and family. We also express our gratitude for his long years of ministry and faithful contribution to diocesan life, which was always offered with great kindness."
