Tributes to founder of FG Wilson business

TRIBUTES have been paid to Fred Wilson OBE, founder of Larne-based engineering firm FG Wilson, who died last week.

Mr Wilson set up the firm in 1966, beginning with just six employees and growing the business to supply electrical generators around the world.

Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster, said his hard work ethic and forward thinking vision regarding business and global export markets made FG Wilson a market leader in the field of engineering.

“Fred was a true example of how drive, determination and know-how can make Northern Ireland business successful on the world stage. This is a lasting legacy of which we can all be proud.”

East Antrim MLA Alastair Ross said that Mr Wilson, who was 84, has made a massive impact in the east Antrim area.

“Fred Wilson was of course the founder of FG Wilson, one of the largest employers in the east Antrim constituency, and grew his business up from modest beginnings in 1966 to become an internationally renowned company supplying generators to firms around the world.

“The FG Wilson name will continue to be a reminder of his tireless work and will serve as a tribute to his success,” he said.
