Tried to walk away from police and was brought to ground

Stephen Sean Moore, Sperrin Drive, Lurgan, was fined £150 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for disorderly behaviour on July 30 this year.

He was also fined £100 for resisting police and £100 for taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner.

For failing to provide a specimen he was fined £300 and banned from driving for six months and for not having insurance he was fined £200 and concurrently disqualified for six months.

The court heard that at 3.40am police saw two males sitting beside a car which had been parked at an angle in Victoria Street, Lurgan.

Both men appeared to be drunk and neither would confirm who owned the car.

Moore started to walk away and then tried to make off. He had to be restrained on the ground by police.

The defendant became abusive towards police saying ‘f—k off’ and ‘black b—ds’.

There was a set of keys in his pocket which fitted the vehicle.

Mr Peter Murphy, representing the defendant, said his client had insurance but he was not covered to drive another vehicle.

He added that Moore thought the police had been heavy handed in taking him to the ground and his record mostly contained motoring offences.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said that if the defendant found the paper part of his licence she would re-consider the six month disqualification.
