Trio of Larne schools enjoy success in F1 contest

Linn PS Alpha F1 Team members and staff held a Thank You Day for their Sponsors during last years fine season and to announce that they will be entering this years competition INLT 07-200-AM

The international competition sees groups of school children tasked with design and manufacture miniature racing cars powered by CO2 cartridges.

The regional finals were held in Ballymena from February 3- February 5, with Larne’s Linn Primary School F1 team being crowned Northern Ireland champions.

The local team will now compete in the UK-wide national finals in Birmingham next month.

Meanwhile, Larne High School’s F1 team, the ‘Larne Lightning Bolts’ took the top prize in the regional Rookie Class.

A spokesperson for the school said: “The Year 10 pupils, Bradley Gillespie, Katie Bell, Jordan Bell, James Burns, Mark Bissett and Aaron Marshall have worked extremely hard over the past six months to build sponsorship, design and manufacture a race car, build a pit display and then create a presentation and portfolio to present to the judges.

“The team and their teacher Mr Gault is now going on to the national finals in Birmingham.”

Elsewhere, St John’s Primary School in Carnlough is celebrating after its F1 team won ‘Best Clay Model Car 2015’ at the regional event.

A school spokesperson said: “Congratulations to our Primary 7 pupils and Mr Emerson on their recent success.

“Everyone at the school agreed the team’s project had the ingredients to secure a prize.

“We are delighted to be the proud recipients of a shiny glass trophy which will take pride of place in the school cabinet.

“Well done to the pupils, staff, sponsors and families who all worked together to achieve this success.”
