Trio of new contracts nets £80m boost for Cookstown building firm

Cookstown firm McAleer and Rushe has won three major new contracts

After winning a £27m contract from Whitbread to build a 380-bedroom Hub for Premier Inn near King’s Cross in London, Taylor Wimpey, one of the UK’s largest residential developers, awarded the firm with a £37m contract to build 91 apartments in the second phase of its Westminster Quarter. They also built the first phase.

McAleer & Rushe has also been appointed on a £17m Design & Build contract by Knightsbridge Student Housing Ltd to build a 361-room student housing scheme in Southampton.

Belfast-based Urban Innovations has been appointed architect on the new-build scheme.

The scheme involves 361 en-suite bedrooms over 8-storeys, a combination of studios and cluster flats.

McAleer & Rushe is also working with KSHL to progress schemes in Portsmouth and Dublin comprising a further 1,000 and 400 beds respectively.

The company has also filed results for a separate entity McAleer & Rushe Group for the 18 months to September 2014 which showed turnover of £68.4m reflecting a pre-tax profit of £1.7m.
