The global company employs over 200 people at its plant in Dollingstown producing moulded fibre products for the egg and fast food industries.

At the Sustainable Ireland Awards ceremony in Belfast, Huhtamaki won a major health and safety prize in the ‘Safety in Waste’ category against a number of large organisations.

The company has also been recognised for its energy efficiency and has been awarded the ISO 50001 Accreditation in Energy Management.

The company won the Safety in Waste category, which attracted the largest number of nominations and which was judged by the Health and Safety Executive NI (HSENI), at the recent event.

At the awards ceremony judges praised Huhtamaki’s committed and well developed approach towards health and safety, which has resulted in a significant improvement and substantial reduction in ‘lost time’ injuries in recent years.

Commenting on the company’s success, Philip Woolsey, General Manager of Huhtamaki Lurgan, said: “This award is a fantastic achievement for Huhtamaki and one of the strongest endorsements we could receive for the tireless effort which has gone into ensuring we have the highest possible standards of health and safety at work.

“Our category included some large organisations, such as Queen’s University, Bryson Recycling and Belfast City Council, and was judged by the HSE, so to be selected as the winner ahead of such strong opposition is a major coup” he said.

“To follow the award success by attaining the ISO 50001 Accreditation in Energy Management has made this a remarkably successful month for the company and I would like to warmly congratulate every member of staff who has made a contribution to these accolades.” Mr Woolsey added.
