Troops have a cuppa for charity

Troops and their families at Thiepval Barracks have been getting themselves into “sticky” situations as they queue up for pastries and bacon rolls - all to raise funds for the oldest military charity - the SSAFA Big Brew.

SSAFA 'Big Brew' is an annual event to raise money for the Charity. The Soldiers Sailors Air Force Association roots go back to 1885 when the Second Expeditionary Force set sail for Egypt and Major (later Colonel) Sir James Gildea wrote to The Times appealing for money and volunteers to help the families left behind. Since then, and with the creation of the Royal Airforce, SSAFA has been instrumental in helping families and dependents through two world wars and countless overseas operations.
