Trying toturn gaysstraight is legal in NI

No public money has been spent trying to turn gay people straight but neither is there a law in Northern Ireland banning conversion therapy or any intention of introducing one.

That’s according to the Health Minister who was asked about funding for so-called “conversion therapy” by SDLP MLA Fearghal McKinney.

The Minister responded: “The Department does not fund any organisation to carry out reparative or conversion therapy on lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender individuals.
