Tuesday Group hosts Christian unity service

A SERVICE to mark Christian Unity Sunday, organised by the Larne Tuesday Group, was held in the McNeill Theatre at Larne Leisure Centre.

A large number of people from across the borough attended Sunday’s event, with ministers and church members representing many of the Christian denominations.

The service was led by Rev Dr Ivan Hull, chairman of the Tuesday Group.

The address, based on the service theme, from Micah 6:6-8 “What does God require of us”, was given by Rev Tommy Stevenson, minister of Larne Methodist churches.

Singing, under the direction of Archy McNeill, was led by St Cedma’s Singers and instrumentalists from that church and one of the first readings was given by the Mayor of Larne, Councillor Gerardine Mulvenna.

Young persons representing various schools and organisations read passages from the Bible. They are Darren McDonagh, Larne YMCA; Cameron Lowe, Larne Boys’ Brigade; Mason Kerr, Roddensvale School; Marianne O’Toole, St Killian’s College; and Jennifer Swann, Larne Grammar School.

Unfortunately, Larne Hugh School was unable to send a pupil representative because of other school commitments.

Larne Borough Council was thanked for the use of the McNeill Theatre.

A generous retiring collection was for Roddensvale School and the new Larne food bank.
