Tullyally Resource Centre re-opens

There were celebratory scenes on Friday as the doors of Tullyally Community Centre re-opened after a four-year hiatus.

Speaking at the event, Community Development coordinator, Julia Kee, said a lot had been accomplished in the past four years.

Describing the progress as “astounding”, she said the centre was now running a six or seven day a week provision, with a record of 673 footfall in one week.

Thanking Tullyally Community Partnership, the funders, she also paid tribute to the committee and outgoing chairwoman, Christina McCallion, Londonderry YMCA Youth provision and the youth workers involved.

Mary Hamilton, unable to attend as she was representing her Party at the funeral of John Hannah, UUP councillor in Banbridge who died in an accident last week, said she wished all associated with the Centre every good wish for the future.

“The centre has always been a vital resource for the Tullyally community and I want to pledge my support for the centre, its management and staff,” she said.

“It was great to be at the opening of the new centre in Tullyally. This area will benefit greatly from the new facility which will be running programmes for all ages in the community. My colleague Drew Thompson has been heavily involved in the process to reopen the community facility and I am pleased to be one of the councillors appointed by Derry CIty and Strabane District Council to sit on the new steering group. The Tullyally area has been without adequate community provision now for some time but they now have opportunities to take part in a range of programmes,” DUP Councillor Hilary McClintock.
