Last year, Tullygarley Residents’ Association received a grant from the Department for Social Development to replace an ornate fountain that was once a centrepiece of the area.

It was removed over 50 years ago, after being damaged in a car accident.

A replacement fountain has been an aspiration of the Tullygarley group since its inception six years ago.

And to the joy of local residents, the new fountain has finally been erected at the junction of Bank, Glynn and Circular roads.

Chairman of the association, Rusty Johnston, said he hoped the project would signal a “real transformation” for the area.

He added: “It is great to see this long-awaited project come to fruition at last. It marks the end of a long road for members of Tullygarley Residents’ Association, who have strove for years to bring the fountain back to the area.

“The fountain will only be for decorative purposes, but it will provide a focal point and will really help to brighten up the area.

“It is the first thing that visitors coming into the town from the Glynn direction will see, so it is sure to get people talking.

“There are still a few finishing touches to put on the project, but once these are completed we plan to hold an official unveiling ceremony to celebrate this achievement.”
