Tullyhogue pensioner struck by car as he crosses road to the shop

An 80-year-old Tullyhogue man was rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening after being struck by a car as he crossed the road to go to the shop.

The local man, who is said to be quite slow on his feet, is understood to make the journey everyday.

“He would go to the shop everyday,” said a local man. “It would be a regular routine for him.”

Now concerned residents are calling for a pedestrian crossing in the centre of the village to prevent this from happening again.

Still being treated in Craigavon Area Hospital for his injuries, the Southern Trust has said that his condition is currently stable.

The PSNI said it was called to the scene around 7.20pm on Wednesday 10 February.

Police received a report of a RTC between a pedestrian and a car on Main Street, Tullyhogue.

“The pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s, was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.”
