Turn a cuppa into care for Northern Ireland Hospice

Local Northern Ireland Hospice Nurse, Margaret McDowell based in Ballymoney, is appealing to the local community to support the charity’s annual Coffee Morning this Thursday 15th September.

In a bid to make it Ireland’s biggest coffee morning the local charity is hoping that hundreds of people will host a coffee party and generate the funds needed to continue providing hospice care to local people.

In the run up to the event the public are invited to dust off their coffee pots, boil their kettles and be ready to have a coffee for hospice. Already attracting support from personalities, individuals, church groups, schools and businesses, every coffee party host who registers will receive complimentary Bewley’s coffee. With a fundraising target of £75,000 for the event, hospice nurse Margaret McDowell highlights the difference this will make in the coming year.

“Every donation, no matter how small or large, makes a difference to local people in our community. At Northern Ireland Hospice we rely heavily on donations from the public so that we can provide care to patients in hospice and in their own homes. Our service is free to patients and families but not free to provide. Just £30 pays for one hour of specialist hospice nursing care for a patient with a terminal illness.”

Helping to recruit coffee party hosts and ensure that everyone receives their complimentary bags of Bewleys coffee on time, Hospice Events Volunteer, Catherine Scally from Ballycastle, is delighted to be lending a hand.

“I have been amazed at the generosity of the Northern Ireland public and the goodwill to support this event. Donating £2 for every cup of coffee served goes a long way in helping hospice reach its fundraising target. Getting friends together for a cuppa along with some homemade buns and biscuits is a great way to catch up and do something worthwhile. At Northern Ireland Hospice all the money raised goes directly towards providing local hospice services.”

It’s not too late to sign up and be part of Northern Ireland Hospice’s biggest coffee morning. Telephone: 028 90 777 123 or visit: nihospice.org to receive your complimentary Bewleys Coffee.
