TUV back UDR memorial plan

TUV backing is being given to the application by The Regimental Association of the UDR’s Ballymena Branch, to erect a UDR Memorial in town’s Memorial Park.

Party leader Jim Allister and Councillors Roy Gillespie and Timothy Gaston handed in their consultation response to the proposal last week.

They stated: “The Ulster Defence Regiment and those who served, men and woman from all religions and backgrounds, did so at great personal risk and many paid the ultimate sacrifice. They provided a bulwark against the terrorist activities of those who sought to use the bullet and the bomb against their neighbours. Ballymena is thankful to the Ulster Defence Regiment, as without them there would be more families today without loved ones.

“TUV is thankful for those who served in the UDR and recognises the vital role they played to protect Northern Ireland. TUV fully supports the application for the erection of a Memorial as a fitting way to remember those who served.
