Twelfth season gets underway with ‘Boyne’ service

A busy Twelfth season lies ahead, with Orange Lodges acorss the District adding the finishing touches to their parade season.

One of the first big events this year is the ‘Battle of the Boyne’ Church Service, which takes place on Sunday next, July 7.

Cumber Claudy No 2 District Lodge and the City of Londonderry No 5 District Lodge will form up in Bonds Street from 1.15pm. At 1.45pm both District Lodges will make their way to Society Street via Glendermott Road, Clooney Terrace, Spencer Road, Craigavon Bridge, Carlisle Road, Ferryquay Street, Bishop Street and Palace Street. The parade will be lead by Killaloo Acc Band.

The Officers of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, together with the City of Londonderry No 1 District Lodge, Raphoe No 3 District Lodge and the City of Londonderry No 4 District Lodge will meet at Society Street from 2pm. At 2.30pm, and after the arrival of No 2 and 5 Districts, on the instructions of the Chief Marshall, Wor Bro Allister Gault, the entire parade will then form up and parade to St Columbs Cathedral via Bishop Street, the Diamond (clockwise), Ferryquay Street, Carlisle Road, Wapping Lane, Kennedy Street, Kennedy Place and London Street. Churchill Flute Band, together with Killaloo Acc Band, will lead the Orange brethren and sisters for this part of the parade.

The parade will stop, en route, at the War Memorial in the Diamond where the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge will lay a wreath in memory of those brethren whom have paid the Supreme Sacrifice in Past World Wars, as well as remembering those whom have paid the Supreme Sacrifice in more recent times, both at home and abroad.

The new Banner, together with Regalia’s, which were commissioned as part of our UK City of Culture celebrations will be dedicated during the service, after which the new Banner will be paraded back to the Memorial Hall. At the conclusion of the service in St Columbs Cathedral, the parade will reform, with the Officers of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, the City of Londonderry No 1 District Lodge, Raphoe No 3 District Lodge and the City of Londonderry No 4 District Lodge returning to Society Street for Dispersal via London Street, Kennedy Place, Kennedy Street, Wapping Lane, Carlisle Road, Ferryquay Street, Bishop Street and Palace Street. Churchill Flute Band will lead this parade.
