Twenty questions and beetle mania at Templepatrick

'WHO was known as the Forces Sweetheart?', and 'How many years does an Emerald Anniversary mark?' were just two of the questions asked of Templepatrick WI members at their first meeting of 2010.

With President Gloria Wallace as question master the aim was to determine the Institute’s representatives for the Area Quiz on February 20 - and Doris McCullagh, Hilary Beckett and Frances Davidson were the high scorers selected for the team, with Roberta Stinson as reserve. Meanwhile, from those who were entered the draw to decide the representative at the Area Bowling Competition on the same date, Wiemy Erwin’s was the name drawn out.

“There’s no six on this dice” was just one of the many comments which accompanied the frenzied shaking of dice as everyone sought to be first to complete a beetle.

The fun and laughter of this annual January event is much enjoyed and who, other than Nance Bill, could think up ten or twelve different ways to play the game of beetle?

Eileen Fleming and Ellen Kane were the high scoring winners while Hilary Beckett had the hidden score, Jean Montgomery the lowest, and Mildred Adams won the monthly competition for getting ‘beetle’ in game number seven.

Each received a prize very kindly donated by Nance. Jean Montgomery thanked Nance for once again providing such a good night’s entertainment.

There were two other lucky ladies on the night - Margaret Beattie who received the Magazine Prize and Wiemy Erwin who won the Ballot Prize.
