Two alerts within hours

POLICE were called to the Antrim Road twice twelve hours to investigate suspicious objects.

One of the security alerts prompted a controlled explosion and evacuation of nearby homes. Both were declared hoaxes by police.

On Sunday, shortly before 5pm rail services were cancelled while a report of a suspicious object at the Bell's Row crossing was investigated.

By 5.45pm trains were back on with nothing uncovered in the search.

A second security alert began at 4am on Monday. It followed the discovery of a suspicious object.

Police confirmed a few homes in the immediate area were evacuated for a short time. Army Technical Officers attended and a controlled explosion was carried out and the item, which was subsequently declared a hoax.

Roads were reopened at 8.40am.
