Two armed robberies are connected say police

THE PSNI in Londonderry say they believe two armed robberies which took place last night (Wednesday, January 12) are connected.

In the first instance a man was robbed by two men as he was withdrawing cash from an ATM on Church Street, Claudy late last night. One of the assailants was carrying a firearm.

Next, around 12.45am a fast food outlet on Spencer Road was robbed at gunpoint. Police say two males wearing hooded tops carried out the crime.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

A statement from the PSNI in Londonderry said: "Anyone who was in the Claudy or Spencer Road areas and could help police with their enquiries is asked to contact Strand Road CID on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively information can be passed on anonymously through the 'Crimestoppers' charity on freephone 0800 555 111."
