Two arrested in connection with fire engine theft

Police investigating the theft of a fire engine from Larne Fire Station have arrested two men aged 66 and 19.

Shortly before 4.30am this morning, police received several reports of a fire engine having crashed into a number of cars and gardens of properties in the Glenarm Road area of Larne.

Larne Fire station has also sustained substantial damage as a result of this incident.

Both men made off from the scene.

One of the males was conveyed to hospital for treatment to his injuries. He has since been released from hospital.

Both men are currently in police custody.

Inspector Trevor Atkinson said: “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed these incidents to contact Police at Larne on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
