Two arrested on drugs charges

Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch in Mahon Road have arrested two men and recovered cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £60,000 following a planned search of a house in the Crew Park Road area of Glenavy on Tuesday January 26.

The men were charged with cultivating cannabis, possessing a class B controlled drug with intent to supply, possession of a class B controlled drug and possessing criminal property. The 29 year old man has also been charged with dishonestly causing electricity to be diverted. They are both expected to appear before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Monday 22 February.

Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “This seizure highlights our continued determination to tackle the scourge of illegal drugs in the local community and I would appeal to anyone who has concerns about illegal drugs to contact police. We will look into any report that we receive as we work with the community to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any concerns or information about illegal drugs to contact their local Police on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
