Two cannabis factories found in Dunmurry

Police in Dunmurry uncovered two cannabis factories in the past 24 hours.

A substantial cannabis factory was discovered in a flat in Rowan Drive this morning by officers responding to reports of suspicious activity.

Plants and herbal cannabis with an potential estimated street value in excess of £115,000 have now been removed from the premises along with cultivation equipment and other associated drugs paraphernalia.

Yesterday the Dunmurry Neighbourhood Team carried out a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act at Sunnymede Park and uncovered a cannabis factory containing plants with an estimated value of around £3,500.

Two men aged 58 and 18 were arrested at the scene. The 18 year old was later released unconditionally while the 58 year old has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Dunmurry Neighbourhood Sergeant Paul Wright welcomed the seizures, “Drugs destroy communities and ruin lives. These discoveries have taken large quantities of potentially dangerous drugs off our streets and have struck a blow against those who deal in illegal drugs.

Local police remain totally committed to disrupting the activities of the gangs involved in the sale and supply of drugs and are working to bring an end to the misery they inflict on our communities.”
