Two die in collision involving police vehicle

Two women have died following a collision involving a police vehicle at Newry’s Belfast Road this morning.

The collision occurred at just after 9.25am and police closed the road in both directions between the Outlet at Banbridge and the Sheepbridge Road near Newry.

It was later confirmed two women had died in the two-vehicle collision; none of the three male officers in the Police vehicle at the time sustained serious injuries.

As is normal procedure, the Police Ombudsman has been informed and will now lead the investigation.
