Lagan Valley MLA Jenny Palmer has called on Sinn Fein and the SDLP to ensure their communities assist the police in “catching the criminals who carried out a sickening paint attack.”

Mrs Palmer continued: “I fully support the PSNI appeal that anyone with information which can lead to these sectarian vandals facing the full rigour of the law should give this information to the police as soon as possible.

“I also appeal to the Unionist community to remain calm and not rise to the bait set by these republican vandals.

“There should be no retaliation of any kind.

“But I also challenge the main nationalist parties, Sinn Fein and the SDLP, not simply to express fancy rhetoric of condemnation, but to go a step further and demand that the republican community actively assist the police in catching these criminals.”

Police can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively members of the public can pass the information anonymously by contacting the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
