Two men arrested in Doagh

Two males, aged 27 and 25, were arrested in the Beech Green area at 2.30am on suspicion of going equipped for theft, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a class B controlled drug.

The arrests came after a member of the public had noticed the men acting suspiciously in the area and contacted the police.

Chief Inspector Stephen Reid has praised the member of the public for alerting them to the incident, and would encourage others to do the same.

“I would like to thank the member of the public who took the time to call us. I would also encourage others to phone us with any suspicious activity or indeed anything that just does not look right,” he said.

“We would rather attend the scene of something that turns out to be untoward than miss opportunities to arrest possible criminals,” he added.

The Chief Inspector reminded the public of the correct methods to use when contacting the police.

“If it is an emergency situation, like a burglary in progress, please call us on 999. In all other instances, you can dial the non-emergency number 101,” he said.

The two men have since been released on police bail and enquiries are continuing.
