Two rescued from Mournes

WHILE on a training exercise on Sunday, June 12, in the Mourne Mountains the members of the North West Mountain Rescue Team were called out to assist two injured walkers.

In response, 20 team members, which included inductees on the final part of their training, as well as two of the team’s search dogs, Jody a qualified search dog, and Molly a search dog in training, were also involved in the incident responses.

“The team had been assisting various walkers throughout the morning as the four peaks ‘Focus Ireland’ challenge was taking place on Slieve Donard,” said Pauline McGurk, press officer for the NWMRT.

“The Team were then called to assist two women in their early 20s, both with lower leg injuries.

“One walker was stretchered off the mountain to an awaiting ambulance and the second walker was walked off assisted by NWMRT,” she said.

“The evacuation was in the control of the team leader John Binns, who said afterwards that he was delighted with how the team dealt with the situation and that it was good for the inductees to have hands-on experience during a training exercise,” said Ms McGurk.
