Friends, Mark Haddock, Gerard Magee and Tony O’Hara have been mates for years and all have played in various bands over the years.

However recently they formed ‘Two Steps South’ to explore their songwriting skills.

Mark explained: “While comparing notes on this subject over a shandy one night we thought it would be an interesting challenge to have a go at producing an album of original songs.

“Something that was totally independent, where everything would be done by ourselves. This involved writing, recording, producing and mastering the actual songs. We did cheat a little during the recording process when, during the very first session, while writing “Let it Rain”, we had an idea that a Pedal Steel might help with the ‘mood’ we were after and so we called in our good friend Lawrence Hill who contributed enormously throughout.

“When we had finished with the recording process we were impressed enough to think we should actually release the album and so we set about designing the sleeve etc, designing and building our website, www.twostepssouth.com, where the album is available for purchase and trying to take advantage of the social media tools on the web, i.e. Facebook, Reverbnation, YouTube, to publicise and maybe drum up a bit of interest.

“We currently have three videos on YouTube and Reverbnation, again self-produced.” The trio all have their own mix and influences, from folk, country and rock music and an ear for a good pop tune.
