Tyre set on fire against door of Cookstown home with children inside

A tyre was put against the front door of a house in Cookstown and set alight in an arson attack in the early hours of this morning.

Four people, including two boys, a woman in her 50s and a man in his 30s, were inside the Castle Mews home when the incident took place.

Nobody was injured and the home is understood to have suffered only smoke damage.

Detectives in Cookstown were alerted to the fire at around 3.30 am, and are now appealing for information.

Detective Inspector Tara Nicholls said: “I would appeal to anyone that was in the area and noticed any suspicious activity between the times of 1.30am and 3.30am to contact CID at Cookstown Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
