None other than UB40 will be recreating the magic of over 30 years of chart hits, which made them one of the most successful bands of the era, selling over 70million records.

The band headlines this year’s Dergfest, a two day celebration of music on July 24-25, featuring a packed line up of local and international talent.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said she was looking forward to enjoying some top performances throughout the popular annual festival.

“Dergfest is a real highlight in the local entertainment calendar and I’m delighted to see that this year’s line up offers an eclectic mix of music which will appeal to all ages and tastes. UB40 will be a massive draw to the event this year! Their music spans the generations from the 80’s until present day, earning them an army of fans, and I’m sure they will have everyone on their feet at Mitchell Park.

“I know the festival will draw a fantastic crowd as it always has great support, and I look forward to catching the wide array of local talent that makes this event so special.”

The Mitchell Park gig on July 24 will be UB40’s only Irish tour date this year and the band – which features no less than 36 top musicians - will be revisiting the reggae hits that topped the charts, including Red Red Wine, Kingston Town and Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.

Not to be outdone by a top Grammy winning band, the local talent gracing Friday’s bill is equally as impressive, with local bands The Hootin’ Annies and The Mindbenders also taking to the stage. Tickets are currently on sale from Ticketmaster and from local outlets The Derg Arms, The Townhouse, Mickey Joes & Logues Bar, priced £28.50

The music continues on Saturday night with a distinctly more local flavour, and a programme featuring The Logues, Riff Raff, Rough Diamond, Young Country and many more. Tickets are priced £12.50.

The celebrations will round off on Sunday with a Free Family Day with children’s entertainment and funding raising events in aid of the Children’s Heartbeat Charity.
