Ugandan school project on course thanks to local genorosity

Jonathan of Gaults shop explained that the money was raised through his annual 24 hour New Years Eve sit out and by Ballymoney’s “Lets Sing Gospel Choir” .

The Let’s Sing Gospel Choir donated a fantastic £3,100 to the cause. Jonathan wished to thank everybody who made a contribution to the total and he would like to emphasise the kindness of the people of Ballymoney and the generosity of the Lets Sing Gospel Choir.

The money will be used for Northern Ireland charity Fields of Life’s campaign to build primary schools in the impoverished African nation of Uganda. The project Jonathan was raising money for will see 450 Ugandan kids benefit from a new school building,it is hoped that work on the new school will start later in the year. Along with wife Wendy and other local volunteers, Jonathan plans to travel to Uganda later this year to visit the area where the school shall be built. Each building costs in the region of £70,000.

Meanwhile, the Fields of Life Charity has called on people in north Antrim to lace up for a prestigious fundraising venture next month. Fields of Life has been chosen by Queen Elizabeth to light The Queens Diamond Jubilee Beacon on Slieve Donard at 10.30. The ceremony will coincide with three others taking place throughout the UK - Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike. Moments later the Queen will light the national beacon at Buckingham Palace. Fields of Life is aiming to send 500 volunteers to the event in County Down. It is hoped that the proceeds raised will provide enough money to fund the building of an entire school in Northern Uganda. One of those taking part is former news reader Lynda Bryans who recently visited the war-torn nation.
