17thC planter to lead walk through Eglinton

Starting from the Eglinton Community Hall at 12.30pm Robert will take participants through the village’s development from the Plantation up to the Second World War.

It will be a fun and informative walk with music and poetry with visits to the Old School house, Courthouse and other locations.

Bob Parke from the Eglinton Annual Show Committee said: “This is a great initiative which promises to be both terrific fun and educational, and we are delighted to be a part of it.

“Do come and find out about our village, and then take the opportunity to come on into the Annual Show immediately after. You will be most welcome!”

Mayor Martin Reilly said: “This is a creative way in which the heritage of the historic village of Eglinton will be brought to life by the historical characters, on hand to provide the story of the village through the centuries.”

Eglinton dates back to the Plantation of Ulster. The area was originally named “Muff,” which derives from Irish meaning “The Plain.”

The River Muff runs through the village and the afforested Muff Glen is situated south- west of the village.
