1m euro boost for Strabane and Lifford

THE Chairman of Strabane District Council says a one million euro EU funding injection will generate increased tourism and boost the economy along the Strabane and Donegal border.

Strabane District Council and Donegal County Council have obtained funding of 995,000 euro from the European Union’s INTERREG IVa Programme through the North West Region Cross Border Group.

Chairman of Strabane District Council, Thomas Kerrigan, explained: “Strabane District wants to enhance the connectivity and attractiveness of the town centre as a shopping destination.

“The Railway Road is a key access route from the town so Council is pleased that this funding will promote connectivity and shopping in our town centre.”

The work on Railway Street includes a new Puffin Crossing close to the Fire Station and provision of additional improved footpaths at three locations.

There will also be under-grounding of BT overhead lines and a new Sculpture work at the Strabane Library.

Other improvements will also include Road Signage, Street Furniture and Interpretative Signage.
