25-year-old charged in relation to Hawkin Street offences

A TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man lifted in relation to the seizure of a quantity of ecstasy and mephedrone in a flat in Londonderry last December (20th) has been charged with a number of offences.

He has been charged with possession of class A and class B drugs and with intent to supply them last December. He has also been charged with two counts of assaulting police, obstructing police and possession of a class A drug yesterday.

He will appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on November 20.

A spokesperson for the PSNI on Tuesday (October 29) said detectives from Organised Crime Branch had arrested the man as part of an ongoing drugs investigation.

“The suspect, who was arrested on the Cityside, is being questioned at Strand Road police station by detectives investigating the seizure of ecstasy and methadrone [sic] at a property in Hawkin Street in the city last December,” a spokesperson said.

Two other men are currently in custody in relation to seizures at the same flat on the same day.

Twenty-nine-year-old Gary McPhillips is currently remanded at Maghaberry charged with possession of ecstasy and mephedrone with intent to supply. He is also charged with possession of explosives, firearm and ammunition.

Twenty-seven-year-old Ryan O’Reilly is also currently in custody charged with possessing in suspicious circumstances a Baikal pistol with a sound suppressor, a Jennings pistol with two ammunition magazines, an improvised 9mm sub-machine gun, an M75 and M52 P3 hand grenade and a stun gun.

He is also charged with possessing in suspicious circumstances a canister of CS spray, 9mm ammunition for use in a Glock 17 pistol and for use in a self-loading Beretta 92 pistol.
