5 new motherswon over tobreastfeeding

They qualified in an eight week Open Course Network training course in breastfeeding, run by the Western Trust and Public Health Agency and supported by Strabane SureStart.

Audrey Moore, Western Trust Lactation Midwife said: “Breastfeeding provides many benefits to both mum and baby such as reducing the risk of infections, allergies and childhood diabetes.

“Breastfeeding mothers also lower the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and osteoporosis. Breast milk contains everything a baby needs for healthy growth and development, at the same time as developing a close bond between mother and baby.”

Sarah Davidson, Western Trust Health Improvement Department added: “Having more volunteers to spread their knowledge and experiences throughout the western area is a valuable asset.”
