8.9% of working age people on the dole

LONDONDERRY once again posted the highest dole claimaint rate amongst working age people in the whole of Northern Ireland last month.

Nearly nine per cent of working age people in the city were claiming the dole in August.

The figures were revealed in the latest Labour Market Report for Northern Ireland.

The report states: “The highest rates at August 2013 were in Derry (8.9 per cent), Strabane (8.1 per cent), Belfast (7.4 per cent), and Limavady (7 per cent).

“Those that showed the highest percentage increase in levels over the year to August 2013 were Strabane (10.3 per cent), Larne (5.2 per cent) and Magherafelt (2.1 per cent).”
