The earliest mills were owned by the Fishmongers’ Society but passed to the Miller family. Born in 1847 Alexander married twice and had two sons, William Miller and Alexander Knox Miller. The former lived at Straidarran House, bought for him by his father when he remarried. He died in 1926. Alexander continued to run the business and in later years expanded greatly to produce flakemeal and Indian meal until 1961. These products, which were delivered by Miller’s own lorries, were for household use and also animal feed.
