It wants to build 127 new units on the soon-to-be former school site. Last August John O’Dowd announced St Peter’s would accept no admissions to Years 8 or 11 in September 2012 and would close completely from August 31, 2013. Apex has applied for permission to build six four bedroom houses, 63 three bedroom houses, 30 two bedroom houses and 28 one bedroom apartments. The development will include new access and associated site works. Last year Mr O’Dowd said: “For over 40 years, St Peter’s High School has played a valuable role in the education of young men from the Creggan area of Derry. However, demographic decline over recent years has, as in many areas across the north, adversely impacted on enrolments, with only 170 pupils enrolled in the school in 2011/2012.”
