Bomb alert: Council facilities closed

Derry City Council has advised that a number of its services have been affected as a result of the ongoing security alert in the city.

The Brandywell Stadium and Showgrounds, the Brandywell Civic Amenity site and the offices of Derry City FC have all been temporarily closed until further notice today.

The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and will provide a further update when it can.

Meanwhile, the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, Bishop Ken Good, has condemned the bombing attempt.

“The whole community in our city is united in condeming the planned mortar attack in Londonderry, which was thwarted last night,” he said, adding: “We simply refuse to be brought back to a time of division and violence. The vision of positive community cooperation and volunteerism for our common good that we saw in the city over this past weekend is the hope for the future that we choose.”
