Bragg and Lennon amongst highlights of new revolution

THE ‘Bard of Barking,’ Billy Bragg, will headline the first night of the ‘Music for a New Revolution’ festival in Londonderry’s Nerve Centre on Friday (August 30).

Curated by local singer-songwriter Paddy Nash, the three day event, which is part of the City of Culture programme for 2013, will focus on artists singing about the issues we face as a society, and explore the impact that music can have on our political systems.

Mr Bragg will open the festival with a headline performance at The Nerve Centre. Blending musical elements of folk, punk rock and protest songs, his lyrics deal primarily with political and romantic themes.

Support on the night comes from Teknopeasant, Connor Kelly and Conor McAteer.

The following two nights will see a continuation of the ‘Revolution’ theme as local act Paddy Nash & The Happy Enchiladas take over The Glassworks venue on Saturday (August 31) with support from Steve White & The Protest Family, Robb Johnson and Colm Bryce.

Sunday (September 1) sees the festival come to an end at Bennigans Bar with performances from Jinx Lennon, The Wood Burning Savages (unplugged), Eamon Friel and Little Hooks.
