LONDONDERRY’S local economy suffered more bankruptcies this year than anywhere in Northern Ireland with almost 90 people going bust between last April and last month.

Trade Minister Arlene Foster provided details on the number of people made bankrupt broken down by constituency from April 2012 until February 2013.

Londonderry had 87 bankruptcies in total; more than in South Down (85); and in Newry and Armagh (83) - the next worst affected.

In neighbouring East Londonderry there were 55 banruptcies during the same time period; and in West Tyrone there were 65. The location of 63 bankrupts was unknown.
