Counter Turner to discuss future of visual arts post 2013

The summit coincides with the inaugural No Jury No Prize Exhibition - an indigneous riposte to Turner, which continues until Wednesday (November 6).

The pow wow is an opportunity to discuss the future of the visual arts in Londonderry once all the bunting has been taken down.

Speakers include Dr Ken Neil, Head of Research at the Glasgow School of Art and Dr Francis McKee, who teaches on the Masters in Fine Art at the school and is Director of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.

They’ll be well-placed to comment on the realisation of legacy in the wake of a major culture gong given Glasgow’s status at European City of Culture in 1990.

According to the London Street Gallery: “Their insights on culture and legacy should hopefully prove informative as our city approaches the conclusion to its year as UK City of Culture.

“Following the presentations, we will develop the debate on fostering art, creativity and change through an open floor discussion with panel members drawn from Arts and Cultural sector and all in attendance.

“We hope this will be a fruitful event where we can develop our thinking on the future of art and change within the city.”

Participants in the two hour event - from 1.30pm to 3.30pm - will have an opportunity to network and enjoy refreshments kindly provided by the Sandwich Company.
