Date for taxi meters soon

He stated: “Taxi fares and taxi-meters are being implemented as part of the Taxi Reform Programme. I will shortly confirm the timeline to bring about these reforms, which will include the introduction of taxi metering.”

The Minister said he consulted on proposals to introduce new taxi fare and taximeter regulations between November 2011 and February 2012.

The DoE received written responses representing the views of 3,637 people.

Mr Attwood said: “I will work to ensure that the interests of drivers and owners and their needs are properly recognised mindful that these are difficult economic times.

“I firmly believe that these changes will bring about benefits for drivers and passengers alike.”
