DUP pleased with ‘fruitful’ meeting on NW roads issues

Londonderry MLA William Hay says the DUP welcomed Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy to the city recently for discussions on a broad range of issues the party has identified in relation to roads and street infrastructure.

The party has campaigned on issues such as weeds and broken kerbstones in the Caw, Nelson Drive, Lincoln Courts and Irish Street areas of the Waterside as well as in Newbuildings.

Councillors and MLAs have also been vocal on potholes and inadequate road maintenance in the city’s rural hinterland and have regularly campaigned for traffic calming measures across the Eastbank.

Mr Hay said members of the party used the opportunity of a meeting with the Minister to discuss all of these issues.

“It was, I have to say, a constructive and fruitful meeting,” said the local MLA. “We as a party welcome the fact that good progress has been made with the recent investment of £400k in Bonds Street, for example.

“There’s also been progress with lighting and the upgrading of footpaths in Irish Street, Lincoln Court and Caw. And of course, there’s the work being carried out at Clooney Terrace where they are putting in new laybys to improve the flow of traffic.”

Mr Hay said the party was appreciative of Mr Kennedy taking time to consider issues in his constituency in detail.
