Faughan: Middleton and Devenney grateful for mandate

DUP poll-topper in the Faughan DEA, Gary Middleton, says both he and running mate Maurice Devenney who polled 936 in first preferences will not let the people of Londonderry and Strabane’s rural hinterland down.

Mr Middleton said: “It’s an honour to top the poll in the Faughan area. For us, it was a challenge, we were taking in new boundaries, we were taking in Bready and Magheramason.

“The one thing is, we can assure the people of Strabane District as well, that we will work for everybody and I look forward to seeing my colleague Alderman Maurice Devenney elected fairly shortly.”

Mr Devenney was indeed elected with both DUP candidates over the line in the early stages.

“So there’ll be a strong DUP team fighting for the rural community once again,” said Mr Middleton.

The Derry City Alderman, who polled an impressive 1,077 first preferences, said: “That’s what we set out to do. We took out two candidates, we put our names on the ballot paper once again, and thankfully the people have come out and they’ve spoken but it has been a long three years. We’ve worked hard and we’ll continue to work hard to ensure the people of Londonderry and Strabane get the service that they have voted for.”
