Fleming to act as chair of police watchdog

SINN Féin councillor Paul Fleming is taking over as chairman of the Londonderry policing watchdog for the remainder of UK City of Culture 2013 and beyond.

He was nominated at a meeting of Derry City Council on Tuesday, March 26.

Mr Fleming will takes over as Chair of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) for the 2013/14 year.

The body became effective from April 1, 2012 when the District Policing Partnership (DPP) and Community Safety Partnership (CSP) were dissolved.

Mr Fleming takes over from SDLP councillor Thomas Conway who was the first chair of the local PCSP.

The republican party is entitled to the chairmanship as the second largest party on Council after the SDLP.
