FP McCann chosen to buildNewbuildings MUGA pitch

A contractor has been appointed to build the new 3G pitch in Newbuildings two years after the Sentinel reported on plans for a multi-use facility in the village.

FP McCann (TD O’Kane) contractors have been appointed to deliver the state of the art facility in Newbuildings.

Mayor Martin Reilly said the project represented an overall investment of £275,000 from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) supported by the Council’s Parks Development Programme for 2013/14.

“This is great news for the Newbuildings area and will bring much needed facilities to the local community,” he said.

Gordon Moore, Chairman of Newbuildings Community and Environmental Association said: “We are delighted to have the development of a new all-weather games and training pitch at the centre.

“On completion it will prove to be an excellent addition to the centre’s facilities. It will provide opportunities for all age groups to learn team working improve technique and skill, encourage a professional attitude and a respect for each other as well for the sport.

“On behalf of the board of directors I would like to thank everyone involved in this project and extend a big thank you to those who first secured the bid for funding but especially to Council and the group over the last year that planned and coordinated the development of the pitch.”

Speaking on behalf of the ARC North West Joint Committee, Councillor Allan Rainey said: “Newbuildings was just one of a number of villages across the four Council areas receiving financial assistance towards a range of village renewal projects”.

He added: “Once completed the pitch would be a great asset for the village and the community.”
