Ilex still headless 14 months after McGinley

Ilex will remain headless 14 months after ex-boss Aideen McGinley left for the BBC Trust as the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) goes to the well once again in a bid to secure a suitable new permanent Chief Executive for the regeneration company.

The Sentinel asked OFMDFM whether nobody wanted the job or nobody was good enough to do the job? At the time of going to press no response was forthcoming.

OFMFDM has also signalled it is willing to ignore consultancy BDO’s recommendation that the firm could be wound down by 2016. It’s recruiting a new Chief Executive on a three year contract from 2014.

The company recently made progress in recruiting a new Chair. In September a full year-and-a-half after Roy McNulty left, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA), Philip Flynn, was appointed to the role, also on a three year contract.

Now OFMDFM have advertised the Chief Executive’s role yet again.

“We are now seeking to recruit a Chief Executive with the leadership skills and technical experience to lead the company in the delivery of these priorities.

“You will have a track record of leadership at senior management level, successfully delivered major regeneration projects, and effectively managed relationships with multiple and diverse stakeholders,” the job notice states.

It wants the new Chief to continue to oversee the One Plan, establish a Creative Enterprise Hub at Ebrington, open up the 26-acres Ebrington site to phased development with a Framework Development Plan currently under way, and achieve outline planning permission for the site in 2014.

The notice confirms the appointment will be on the basis of a three year fixed term contract and may be available on secondment.
