Latest: Man held after body found in Lough Neagh confirmed as Pauline Carmichael

Serious Crime Branch have been granted more time to question the 37-year-old man they arrested, after remains found near Lough Neagh on Wednesday were confirmed as Pauline Carmichael.

A 59-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the Co Antrim woman’s murder investigation was released unconditionally by detectives.

Ms Carmichael’s body was recovered from the shore of Lough Neagh at Lough Road.

She went missing from her home at around 10pm on Monday night. Read the Mail’s story on her disappearance here.Prior to the discovery of the body, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Dickson from the PSNI’s serious crime branch said: “Information provided to us leads me to believe Pauline has been murdered.”

Detectives have been granted a detention extension until Friday in relation to the 37-year-old suspect.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Dickson added: “A woman’s body which was recovered from the shore of Lough Neagh at Lough Road yesterday, Wednesday 25 February, has been formally identified as that of Pauline Carmichael.”
