Less than 5 sexconvicts in RAF

The Ministry revealed the amount of personnel registered on the sex offenders register in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

According to the MoD: “In the UK Armed Forces, just as in the civilian environment, the number of individuals on the register is not static and is therefore subject to change.”

A spokesperson added: “I can confirm that at the current date there are less than five RAF Service personnel registered on the sex offenders register that are currently serving.”

The spokesperson said that in most cases conviction for a sex offence will result in discharge from the RAF but in some cases sex offenders will be retained.

“When a member of the UK Armed Forces is convicted at courts-martial or by civil courts, of a sexual offence and has been required to register on the sex offenders register, their retention will be assessed in view of the severity of their offence.

“In most cases discharge will follow, but in exceptional circumstances, after the risks posed by the individual and their future employment have been carefully assessed, the individual may be retained,” the spokesperson stated.
