Lifebelt dearth asman despairs

A LONDONDERRY man has spoken of his dismay at the lack of lifebelts at a popular riverside park in the city after a man climbed over the railings of the Foyle Bridge on Monday (May 28). He said: “When the guy climbed over the bridge I began searching for lifebelts. There were none. Unbelievable in an area with regular suicides that Derry City Council don’t have somebody replenishing lifebelts yet the see fit to spend a fortune cleaning up old buildings as eye candy.” Fifty-seven people killed themselves here between 2009 and 2011.
